BUSHCRAFT CHEST RIG AND CLOTHING

Bild
The idea to build a bushcraft chest rig came originally from the military where you have all important stuff on your upper body. Helikon-tex has one model for civil use and it looks really handy. I have however collected different rigs due my service in the military reserve – so I build my own version. It thinks a chest rig gives you some kind of security when working alone in the wilderness. You have for instance first aid really near and tools for working with hot stoves and pipes. You often wear a lot of clothing in the winter and it’s really handy to have a knife easy to use and not hanging from a belt under several jackets. Helikon-chest rig for civil use I have my rig in the transport sledge and I use the rig when I build the camp. I do not use it otherwise. I have in my rig now from left to right: Tasmanian tiger pouch 1: first aid mainly for cuts, Helikon-tex Sere pouch: Gerber multi tool, stuff for the hot stove, iron trip wire, Tasmanian-tiger pouch 2: a Lumonite head l

Hot Tenting part 2 - The test in -11 C

I went back to the same place as early and got the camp built in aprox 35 min. The tent is big enough to get all gear in it, the sledge and my backpack. I had a IKEA bag full of wood to burn in the hot stove and soon I had a nice an cozy temperature in the tent. The outside temperature was about -8 degrees. I started to sleep in my gore tex bivy bag and down sleeping bag. The first part of the night was some chill and I had to do something aprox 05.00 in the morning. I put fire in the hot stove and realized that the tent had frozen moisture in the roof. The hot stove gave warmth and I got an extra down sleeping bag from my gear. I had now two sleeping bags and my gore bivy bag. I got directly warm and slept well until the morning. The morning was cold, aprox -11 degrees nut the hot stove gave some warmth. I was back at my car at about 10.00. Hints: pack all gear so that it easy to work with it in cold conditions. The chimney and the hot stove is made of metal – wear thin gloves

Hot Tenting part 1 Pre-training

I got all parts to my Hot Tent gear in late November and I went outdoors to do the pre training in daylight. It was enough of snow so I could have all gear in my big expedition sled. The tent was still in its original pouch and the stove didn’t take much place, so I had all stuff packed in a IKEA bag. I did a lot of research about the right hot tent model and found one via YouTube. One Tigris Rockdomus got the most points of all. The tent is aprox 2x3 meters and easy to use in forests. Tepee was also an option and I might get one. The 1-2 persons tepee is smaller – and the hot stove produces then more heat compared to the tent size. Rockdomus – large Alaska hot tent style tent. Large indoors, 2 can sleep easy in the tent, up to 4 persons is possible without backpacks. Possible to use camp beds in the tent. I walked about 20 min when I came to my spot and started to rise the tent. The tent is really easy to rise, you need only 2 trees aprox 5-6 meter in between. You get the tent
